LET’S GO FISHING!

Lake Champlain International and the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife have partnered to bring you the state’s premiere fishing and water resources education program – Let’s Go Fishing!

The Let’s Go Fishing (LGF) Program is an organized effort to train a network of volunteers to teach and encourage young people and their families how to fish. LGF believes that fishing is about more than just catching fish; it’s a lifetime hobby to be shared.  LGF emphasizes four themes:
  • Hands-on experience fishing
  • Aquatic ecology, management
  • Importance of habitat conservation
  • Ethics

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!

There are two types of volunteers. The first type of volunteer is a Certified Instructor. Certified Instructors complete a one-day weekend training workshop where they learn the basics of holding their own LGF clinic. Most of the Certified Instructors are affiliated with a club or group that will host the clinic. The next type of volunteer helps instructors with the clinics. These volunteers can assist in teaching sections of the clinic or they can help by keeping things organized.

Let’s Go Fishing would like to hear from teachers who want to incorporate the program into their classrooms. LGF has been used in math, physical education, science, and reading classes.

We had two great instructor workshops this spring, with many enthusiastic participants who are now ready to get kids out there fishing!  Check back here to see when future workshops are scheduled.
